I have to be honest with you, this week feels like the toughest week of the challenge so far. I lost motivation (despite all my efforts here), with days going by without so much as a glance at my declutter list or a bag in sight. With only 9 days left to go of the 40 Bags in 40 Days, it’s time to dig deep and get back on track … for week 5 of the declutter challenge.
So what happened … it was all going so well? I guess you could say life threw up competing priorities, and as I write this, I find I am admonishing myself less and less. Watching my daughter at her ballet open day, or spending Sunday helping out at the school fete is more important than decluttering my husband’s workbench. I’ll just shut the garage door – it’s not going anywhere!
Autumn has arrived in Australia and while we’re still getting beautiful weather … sunny and 28C for the fete – the days are getting shorter and suddenly summer is gone, with winter stretching ahead.
Plus I really wanted to paint an old kitchen chair with some beautiful paint I picked up earlier this week … now that’s my idea of a fun Sunday afternoon!
Okay, enough excuses – time to dust off that list. I looked back at the areas which had been skipped. Most of the spaces that had been neglected last week would take no time at all to declutter … so I tackled those first and proudly ticked them off as done. Now I’m starting to feel good. To be honest I cheated with the linen cupboard. I don’t have any doors (which is a whole other story), so I tend to keep my linen cupboard in fairly reasonable order.

Re-organised the linen cupboard, now have somewhere to store (rather than on my dining table) bits & bobs such as picture frames and curtain tie-backs waiting to be hung.
I really just poked my head into the linen cupboard and pulled out random items – one bag full … done!
I have a huge bag full of clothes and other items I want to try to sell, so I amended my list and dedicated a few days to listing these on Ebay. I think I’ll put the money towards new linen cupboard doors!
But the biggest motivation of all is the rubbish collection I have booked for just after Easter. I want to be able to show off my beautifully decuttered garage.
And finally, lets look back and see how far I have come … 40 bags in 40 days? I’ve achieved this and more!
How is your decluttering going?
What tips do you have to get back on track?

I agree that spending time doing other things is time well spent. Like you said, the clutter will wait for you. I have been in a spring cleaning frenzy too! I love decluttering!

I agree that some decluttering can wait (and it does)! Good for you on keeping the closet organized, that is not cheating, that is being diligent! 🙂

I love it! I like to use bins to keep things de-cluttered. Especially in the linen closet when piles can so easily get messy. Awesome that you were able to fit more in the linen closet than before!!

Bins are a great idea! I’ve started to use them on the open shelves in my laundry to help keep order. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
